The GeoBox Wiki
This wiki was created to allow a better cooperation between people interested in the development and maintenance of a successful GIS open source based distribution. Please create a new account to contribute.
GeoBox goals
GeoBox aims to be a open source based distribution with common GIS software pre-installed. But keeping it up-to-date, with recent version of GIS applications and plug-ins, is not easy. So, if each of us can add a small contribution, we will have a successful GIS OSS based distribution.
GeoBox advantage
The major advantage is to reduce the time and effort to get started with OSS based GIS software. After installing the GeoBox, several applications are ready to run. Several services are also ready out of the box.
To teach, the GeoBox is also very interesting. All students can follow the same instructions, to run exercises prepared for the GeoBox.
Running it
The GeoBox can be used as any other Linux distribution. Please choose the one that best fit your environment. Using virtual machines GeoBox can be used even by non Linux systems.

More on GeoBox languages
GeoBox can be used, improved and by all. Right now, we are more concentrated on the Portuguese language. English is also supported, since it is the common language for most of the internet users.
We started two different Wikis, that we want to keep synchronized as possible. The English and the Portuguese version [8]. Feel free to contribute to one of these languages. If someone is interested in another language (French, Deutsch, Spanish, Italian, etc), please email the Wiki administrator to ask for a new wiki installation.
Supporting GeoBox
Your help is very much appreciated! To help, simply use the GeoBox, and let us know how we can improve it. If you have some spare time to help others, please contribute to this Wiki. Create an account. Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.
